Weddings

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Leah and Harley. The ceremony and reception was held at the Radisson in Nashua, New Hampshire. It use to be The Sheraton, and has that classic “castle” look to it, that made for a nice backdrop to some of the photos.

What a great young couple with a wonderful family and amazing friends.

Here are some shots from the day:

Being a part-time wedding photographer it’s always nice to attend a wedding without having to worry about “getting the shots.” My cousin George, who I have not seen in years, and his fiance’ Cathy were married yesterday at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers, MA.

The Mass was beautiful, with music provided by one of the most talented “Church” musicians I ever heard. At the reception, about 11 members of my family and relatives were present (we all fit at one table.) The live band was great, and it was nice to catch up on what everyone was doing in their life.

I did take some time to snap a few photos, but mostly enjoyed the atmosphere. My wife and I had to step out a little early to relieve my mother-in-law, who was watching Mary and Luke for us. Congratulations George and Cathy!

Just wanted to announce that my new wedding photography website is 90% complete! I am still going to add some more photos to the galleries and a FAQ section (a new “business only” blog will also be added soon.) I was hoping that I could get some feedback on it, and would really appreciate it if you could head over to www.bhphotographer.com and have a look.

Last Saturday I had the privilege to photograph the wedding of Stephanie Barrows and Talon Torressen. It took place in Cavendish, Vermont at the Bates Mansion. What an absolutely gorgeous setting to photograph a wedding. Even the weather was gorgeous! Keep in mind that we have experienced about three plus months of rain almost every other day, it was a pleasant surprise to have puffy clouds, sun, and temperatures in the low to mid 70’s all day. However, you could hear the rumbling of thunder as we watched storm clouds, off in the distance, pass by.

The staff at the bates mansion could not have been any more accommodating and pleasant. The wedding coordinator was probably one of the most pleasant and helpful individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I can’t recommend them enough! Give them a look if you are making wedding arrangements in the area.

I did meet Stephanie once, or twice in passing before. She happens to be the daughter of a co-worker and friend of mine. It was refreshing to work around  friendly, familiar faces, and collect the positive energy that everyone present carried with them. Usually at weddings, you can easily pick out the people who really don’t want to be there. EVERYONE was thrilled to be part of this wonderful day. I didn’t even need to remind anyone to smile for the formal shots.

Getting to the wedding was half the fun… by the way… that was sarcasm. Since I live in Massachusetts, I needed to get to Vermont the night before the wedding to rest up. My wife and two little ones were graciously invited, and we were put up in a local hotel. Getting there, however, was a more daunting task than any wedding I have ever photographed! We started out a little later than we had hoped, and after stopping at a McDonald’s to grab a bite before leaving Massachusetts, our two year old threw-up all over herself… and, to make a long story short, She ended up doing it again in the last 40 minutes of the trip, and there was about a straight hour of great sadness, and screaming thrown in between. But we did arrive, almost sane, around 10:20pm.

I did, however, rest up and had a great time at the wedding. Judy and the kids ended up going to a Zucchini Festival across the street from the hotel we stayed in, and Mary may have even gotten her picture in the local paper. We’re going to try and get a copy to find out.

Congratulations Stephanie & Talon! Enjoy the honeymoon.
