Humor

A week has never flown by so quickly. But I suppose when the week is your last week off from work, for some time to come, they pretty much take forever to begin and seem to always end in a heartbeat.

bill-engvallAnd although most of the day has been quiet, and the rain has made this depressing final day of my vacation worse than it was already, I got to end my vacation with a bit of humor. Tonight Judy and I went to see Bill Engvall live at the Northshore Music Theater (a birthday present from Judy.)

What a funny man! I really never paid much attention to his stand-up; yeah, I caught a bit here and there on TV, and watched a few of his sitcom episodes, but I never really gave him a chance. But after tonight… I’m a fan. Not only is the man funny; he is tasteful and didn’t utter a single four letter word to support his humor. He was on stage for about two hours, and kept us going for every minute of it. We also had great seats (fourth row.)

Aside from watching a great show, it was really nice to get out of the house, and have a date with my wife. As much as you love your kid(s), you really need to enjoy the company of each other from time to time without them :o)

I’m not really much of a fan of today’s television offerings. Most of what I surf past seems to be loaded with violence, sex and language that I wasn’t even aware that they could say on prime time television. One of my favorite t.v. sitcoms, King of Queens, came to an end last year, and although I can still watch the repeats over, and over again, there is always the desire for something new and fresh.

Well, on July 7th, 2006 I watched the pilot episode of a detective/comedy series on the USA network, called “Psych.” Rarely do I enjoy any pilot episode, but this one had something special. It was pure, honest, fresh, and VERY funny.

The series stars James Roday, as “psychic” detective Shawn Spencer. Along with co-star DulĂ© Hill, who plays Shawn’s more serious partner, and best friend, Burton ‘Gus’ Guster, Shawn uses his gift of picking out and remembering the tiniest of details, to solve crimes for the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The series is loaded with tons of “80’s” references, so if this was the period you grew up in, then you will enjoy the show even more. The dialog is the best that I have ever seen for any t.v. series, and it never seems to falter, it just gets better with every episode.

One of my favorite bits of dialog:

Shawn Spencer: “Good morning detectives, collecting money for the Policeman’s ball? ”
Carlton Lassiter: “We don’t have balls.”
Shawn Spencer: “I honestly have no response to that.”

The chemistry of the entire cast is absolute perfection! Other notables in the series are: Corbin Bernsen, who plays Shawn’s father Henry Spencer. Timothy Omundson, as Detective Carlton Lassiter, and Maggie Lawson as Junior Detective Juliet (Jules) O’Hara.

Currently “psych” is into their third season on the USA network, and I can not recommend this series enough to anyone. If you haven’t seen it, you have to check it out! A brand new episode airs tomorrow, 8/8, at 10pm Est/9pm Central on USA. Set your DVR if it’s too late for you, or if your just not going to be around.

Seasons one and two are currently available on DVD.

I think that this guy is a pretty talented impressionist. The first video is 200 impressions squeezed into approximately 16 minutes. It features impressions from Family Guy, Simpsons, celebrities and even some politicians. Really great stuff.

The second video is for all of us that got a kick out of “Pee Wee’s Play House” in the mid-eighties. This guy does a flawless improvisation of Pee Wee. I thought that both clips were quite entertaining. Enjoy!

Ok, this is definitely toilet humor, but considering that it is real footage, I found it pretty laughable. You’ll never stand behind an elephant again after watching this video.

I found this stop motion animated video on the official Star Wars Blog. It was created by Patrick Boivin of Montreal. If you love Star Wars, or Flash Dance, you’re sure to get a chuckle out of it. I thought it was a riot and very creative.
